Monster Girl Extravaganza Day 8!

Here we go, today we have Mangowo with Fox Girl Evolution!

First of all, tell us a little about yourself? Online or Offline.

Name’s Mangowo online. Don’t ask what I was thinking when I picked it, I genuinely have no clue. People just call me mango now so I guess it worked out. Offline am a Cybersecurity Analyst, so still stuck in the corporate grind but hopefully not for long. I like reading. Like a lot. Webnovels mostly, been chewing through them for years and no plans to stop

Where does your inspiration come from? What childhood books, or movies were your biggest draw?

Had a bit of a pipeline with this. Started with anime first. Wasn’t even into novels at first but you can only watch so much before you hit the “uhh what now” wall, so I started digging into the source material, manga followed by manhwas/manhua. When I ran outta those too I slid straight into JP/KR/CN light novels. That was kinda my first dive into book reading. First ones I read were Overlord and Solo Leveling and from there it was just so over for me. Fell into the webnovel pit. Got addicted to LitRPGs because numbers go up = epic serotonin. That’s how I found RR. Stuff like HWFWM, Primal Hunter, Delve, Magic Smithing, There's No Epic Loot Here Only Puns, Snake Report, The Gilded Hero, JOBAR, Great Core’s Paradox etc were my early RR favs

What was your first story on Royal Road and how did it grow you and your brand from there?

First thing I posted was a cat monster evolution story. ngl it kinda sucked hard. Still managed to get into Rising Stars back in 2020, which was before shout swaps were a thing so am weirdly proud of those 1500 follows. But yeah I nuked it later because I didn’t want anyone to know it ever existed. RIP sad cat Alec’s story.

The exciting part, tell us about this newest release?

OP gremlin fox girl. The world is doomed.

What made you choose to tell this particular story?

One of the characters in The Dragon Heir (current story) is a fox girl and her POV is always very chaotic in a good way. So I have a lot of creative freedom with her. So I figured what if I made an entire story around someone like her but even worse. That’s how Fox Girl Evolution was born.unknown node

What have you learned with previous writing that you’ve harnessed here?

Cliffhangers. Ultimate power move.

Ie what is your writing process?

Smash head into keyboard until story comes out.

What is your biggest regret with writing? Or your hardest lesson learned?

More pretty words don’t mean a better story. I used to think stuffing stuff up with fancy prose or detailed descriptions made things better. But  if your story’s foundation is weak all that fluff just makes it worse. Learned that the hard way so now I just focus on clarity. If I want readers to feel something I make sure they get what I’m going for.

If you could tell our new authors 3 things that helped you get to where you are today, what would they be?

Read and actually enjoy what you’re reading.

Write the kind of stories you’d genuinely enjoy reading yourself.

Luck doesn’t exist in this genre. If a story is big its because the author’s skill made it that way.

Any other parting nuggets of wisdom?

Main reason I read is cuz I wanna be entertained. If I wouldn’t enjoy reading it why bother writing it, even if it’s technically “impressive?” So now I write fun stuff for people like me, not to impress some literary critic.
