Been a little crazy the last few weeks and so we're back with a new interview. Welcome to Maria D'Mim she's an avid discord listener as well. So this is nice to do for her, welcome Maria!
Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a mom of two, they help keep my brain in the creative world so that they are entertained. I love reading stories in the land of fantasy, with litrpg being my newest genre to fall in love with. Most of the stuff I read is usually rich with magic or supernatural phenomenon. Some detective stories are good too, the whole puzzle behind the who and why. I didn’t realize how much I’d enjoy a magical version of these until reading one of Malory’s series.
Until I wrote the first in my ‘The Warren’ series, I had never really given the whole self publishing a great deal of thought. I have several almost finished fictions that are still waiting for their endings. From time to time they appear in my brain space to yell at me, I add the new stuff they give me and continue on with The Warren. It’s come this far, might as well finish it first.
My creative output hasn’t always been writing, at least not that others fully saw. I still put it toward random stuff stream related. I used to help other twitch streamers with their random responses for their bots to spout in chat. The different ‘hug command’ scenarios or whatever it was they wanted their bot to say but funny or deadly, whichever, lol. This includes me, I love chatting with others and playing games. Not always the best at the games I play, having fun being more important than skill.
What’s your newest release?
My newest release was book 2 of my ‘The Warren’ series: Down Yet Another Rabbit Hole.
Where did your inspiration come from?
Honestly it was a mix between my kiddo needing ideas toward a writing contest in school and the different books I was reading. After reading Jez’s Brightblade, the different possibilities just appeared. After reading a smidge of my first book, my mom started comparing it to Alice in Wonderland, which made me realize it was an isekai. Had never even put the two together, was still learning all the new terms and what not of this grand umbrella called litrpg.
But I’ve always loved magic. Witches and mages are almost the same thing. One has that whole mana thing to worry about and witches have the townsfolk to worry about burning them down. Being able to mold the universe around them and change the stereotypes with them is so much fun. Add in the bumbling in the dark to figure stuff out the hard way can add so much flavor to the story. Seriously, not everyone can be Harry with a Hagrid to show up and guide them to a whole school to teach them the in’s and out’s of magic.
For now, Lucy and the others lead me through the story. I just try to keep up with what they show me.
